Boulder, Colo. (Oct. 9, 2014) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, announced today the date and location of its inaugural Beach Championships. The event will be held May 2-3, 2015 in Virginia Beach, Va. The 2015 Beach Championships will be hosted by USA Ultimate, with the City of Virginia Beach Sports Marketing and Woodside Ultimate Club serving as the local organizing committee.

"Virginia Beach Sports Marketing is honored to be the host of the 2015 USA Ultimate Beach Championship," said Bill Kelly, Sports Event Services Manager for the Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Our award-winning, family-friendly beaches will be a world-class venue for this first-ever event. The City, our hospitality community and local organizing committee look forward to welcoming the athletes, coaches, families and fans."

Teams from around the country will compete at the inaugural two-day event across five divisions: men’s, women’s, mixed, masters and mixed masters. All five divisions will also be contested at the 2015 World Championships of Beach Ultimate, hosted by the World Flying Disc Federation. Athletes selected to represent the U.S. on each of the Beach National Teams were announced earlier this month

"The Virginia Beach Oceanfront is centrally located on the east coast," added Kelly. "We are looking forward to adding the unique sport of USA Ultimate to the roster of successful sporting events hosted on our beautiful beaches. From beach volleyball, to sand soccer and beach football, Virginia Beach knows what it takes to take a beach sporting event to the next level. We are excited about this partnership and look forward to many more years of hosting events together."

Division guidelines, including information about how to qualify for next year’s Beach Championships, are currently being developed and will be available online in the coming months.

The USA Ultimate beach division was established in 2010 to promote the sport and foster its growth and recognition, assist beach ultimate event organizers, provide players with information about upcoming events, work toward the establishment of a national playoff series, and act as a formal representative of the U.S. beach ultimate community at national and international events.
