Nationwide Series of Community Conversations Next Step in Strategic Planning Process

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Feb. 28, 2017) – Following analysis of data gathered from the initial stakeholder opinion survey, the next step of USA Ultimate’s 2019-21 strategic planning process includes a series of conversations with members of the ultimate community as part of a nationwide tour.

The 2017 USA Ultimate Vision Tour includes stops in 11 cities and is designed to engage the sport’s various stakeholders to learn more about their short- and long-term visions for the sport of ultimate. In partnership with various state organizations, affiliates and local disc associations, USA Ultimate confirmed today the dates and locations of these Community Conversations.

The five-week tour kicks off in New York City on March 15 and includes dates in Boston; Washington, D.C.; Pittsburgh; Chicago; Minneapolis; Seattle; Oakland; Atlanta; Raleigh-Durham; and Denver.

All of the sport’s stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, educators, parents, volunteers, observers, local organizations, sponsors, licensees, media entities and more are encouraged to attend and provide feedback alongside USA Ultimate’s strategic planning task force, board members and national headquarters staff.

The 2019-21 Strategic Plan will be revealed in conjunction with ultimate’s 50th anniversary celebration in San Diego in October 2018.

"There are a lot of different ways we can grow the sport of ultimate," commented Henry Thorne, USA Ultimate board of directors vice president and strategic planning task force chair. "Some are controversial, like teaming up with a semi-pro league, and some are pretty boring, like getting a new version of the rules out the door. But they all consume your dues dollars, and we need to hear from you what you think of them. So we’ll be coming to you with our buckets of ideas, adding your own and having a conversation about where you’d like to see our sport go over the next five and fifty years. Please join us."

While the specific agenda for each Community Conversation is being finalized, the meetings are expected to occur in the evening and last approximately two hours. More details will be announced as they become available on usaultimate.org and USA Ultimate’s social media platforms.

"I am really looking forward to getting out into all these great communities to discuss the future of our sport," said USA Ultimate Chief Executive Officer Tom Crawford. "Ultimate is in an exciting place at an exciting time in the world of sports, and listening to our community’s best ideas on how we can continue to grow the sport will be very stimulating and super helpful. I encourage everyone – athletes, coaches, parents, local organizers, observers, tournament directors, and anyone interested in our future – to come out and participate in these community conversations. See you there!"
