USA ULTIMATE PARTNERS WITH NICKELODEON TO CELEBRATE ITS 10TH ANNUAL WORLDWIDE DAY OF PLAY

Boulder, Colo. (Sept. 3, 2013) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, is excited to announce a new partnership with Nickelodeon, the number one entertainment brand for kids, and their Worldwide Day of Play.

Worldwide Day of Play, part of Nickelodeon’s "The Big Help" campaign, is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting healthy and active lifestyles. Each year for the past decade, Nickelodeon has gone completely dark for three hours, taking programming off the air and shutting down its website to encourage kids to get up, get out and go play! Over the last ten years, these efforts have resulted in thousands of events and millions of kids being active and pursuing healthy lifestyles.

USA Ultimate is excited about the opportunity to further the goals set out it its strategic plan while partnering with influential organizations to promote the sport of ultimate to youth across the country. Countless groups have partnered with Nickelodeon for the Worldwide Day of Play alongside USA Ultimate, including the National Football League, National Basketball Association, United States Tennis Association, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, YMCA and many others. USA Ultimate staff and members of league affiliate DiscNY will be onsite at Nickelodeon’s premier Worldwide Day of Play event in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on September 21 to spread the word about ultimate and get kids active.

"Nickelodeon has created a great platform to inspire kids to get outside and play and USA Ultimate is happy to be a part of that," explains USA Ultimate Manager of Education & Youth Programs Mike Lovinguth. "Kids will experience ultimate at the Worldwide Day of Play celebration in Brooklyn and through other grassroots events nationwide. Organizers and kids alike can even find a quick-start guide to ultimate on the Worldwide Day of Play website. We’re hoping our local ultimate associations participate in this experience as well and get out and PLAY!"
