Feb. 14, 2014 (Boulder, Colo.) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, is excited to announce its newest championship event. In 2015, USA Ultimate will hosts its first-ever national Beach Championships.

The Beach Championships will take place in late April or early May at a to-be-determined site. Teams from around the country will compete at the inaugural two-day event across five divisions: men’s, women’s, mixed, masters, and mixed masters. Each of these divisions will also be contested at the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) World Championships of Beach Ultimate next year.

USA Ultimate’s beach working group is in the process of developing guidelines which will outline the division’s competition structure and the application process for participation in the first-ever Beach Championships.

Bids to host the inaugural USA Ultimate Beach Championships are now being accepted. If your community is interested in hosting this event, please submit a bid by May 31, 2014. For more information on the bid process, please visit https://www.usaultimate.org/resources/champ_events/default.aspx.

Following the 2010 WFDF World Congress, WFDF officially recognized beach ultimate, incorporated the Beach World Championships into its competition structure and granted existing national federations such as USA Ultimate the authority to govern beach ultimate in their country. After receiving approval from the board of directors, USA Ultimate began overseeing beach ultimate late in 2010 with the formation of a beach committee. Since that time, a beach working group has been developed and is now part of the larger competition working group at USA Ultimate.

The USA Ultimate beach division was established to promote the sport and foster its growth and recognition, assist beach ultimate event organizers, provide players with information about upcoming events, work toward the establishment of a national playoff series, and act as a formal representative of the U.S. beach ultimate community at national and international events.
