Host Tournaments Sought for Pro/Elite Challenge, Elite/Select Challenge, Pro Flight Finale
Boulder, Colo. (December 20, 2013)--USA Ultimate has opened the bid process for events interested in becoming one of the three top flight events for teams participating in the
2014 USA Ultimate Triple Crown Tour.
The USA Ultimate Triple Crown Tour represents the highest level of competitive Ultimate in the world and features three divisions – Men’s, Women’s and Mixed – each of which is divided into four Flights (Pro, Elite, Select and Classic) based on competitive performance from the previous season.
Pro and Elite Flight teams represent the top 16 teams in the country (eight in each flight) and will attend several Triple Crown Tour regular season events. These events are bid out to organizers and selected by USA Ultimate based on the criteria outlined in the
bid document.
Select Flight teams represent the top four teams (per division) in each of USA Ultimate’s eight regions that did not qualify for the previous year’s national championships. Organizers interested in hosting a 2014 Select Flight event as part of the Triple Crown Tour do not need to apply via this bid process, rather through USA Ultimate’s regular sanctioning program.
USA Ultimate is currently seeking bids for the following three events:
EVENT |
QUALIFYING TEAMS (PER DIVISION) |
Pro/Elite Flight Challenge |
(12) – 4 Pro Flight Teams that do not qualify for the U.S. Open + 8 Elite Teams |
Elite/Select Flight Challenge |
(16) – 8 Elite Teams + the top Select Flight Team from each of the 8 geographic regions |
Pro Flight Finale |
(8) – 8 Pro Flight Teams |
Events interested in becoming a part of the Triple Crown Tour by hosting one of these three events may submit bids to host any number of divisions (one, two, or all three), with the exception of the Pro Flight Finale, which must include all three divisions (24 teams total).
Along with the U.S. Open and the National Championships, the Pro/Elite Challenge, the Elite/Select Challenge and the Pro Flight Finale will serve as the Tour’s showcase events, however the Tour itself is comprised of dozens of regular season sanctioned events that provide local, regional and national playing opportunities to teams at all levels (Pro, Elite, Select & Classic). All of these events together factor into teams’ overall rankings and the second leg of the Triple Crown Tour (final regular season ranking).
The other two legs of the Triple Crown Tour include the U.S. Open and the National Championships.
