USA Ultimate Now Accepting Board of Directors Nominations

September 3, 2013 (Boulder, Colo.) – USA Ultimate is now accepting applications for the 2014 Board of Directors for both elected and appointed positions.
This fall, four new representatives will be added to the board in the following capacity: (see below for a description of each type of candidate)
(1) At-Large Board Member (elected by the general USA Ultimate membership)
(1) Elite Athlete Board Member (elected by elite athlete members of USA Ultimate)
(1) Appointed Board Member (appointed by USA Ultimate)
(1) Independent Board Member (appointed by USA Ultimate)
USA Ultimate is going through an exciting time, and as the organization grows we need board members with the right perspectives and expertise to help make smart decisions.

USA Ultimate is accepting applications to run in both the At-Large and Elite Athlete elections, which will occur from Oct. 4 through Oct. 18. Interested candidates must send a letter of intent, along with the following information to nom_comm@usaultimate.org:
- Full Name
- USA Ultimate membership number
- Contact information
- Occupation/relevant experience
- Statement describing why you are running for a seat on the USA Ultimate Board of Directors
- Which position you are running for
The application window for the At-Large and Elite Athlete election closes at 5:00pm MT on Friday, Sept. 20.
At-Large and Elite Athlete candidates also must submit a candidate statement, submit a photo, and make themselves available for a video interview prior to Sept. 23. These items will be made public to members in preparation for the voting period.
USA Ultimate is also accepting applications for Appointed and Independent candidates. To apply for these positions, please contact nom_comm@usaultimate.org with the following information:

Appointed and Independent candidates must be available for a phone interview prior to Thursday, Oct. 10. Candidates that fill the following representation gaps will receive additional consideration:

• Finance (CPA preferred)
• Fundraising
• Non-ultimate sports association
• Youth ultimate (coach, parent)
The following defines each type of USA Ultimate Board member as outlined in USA Ultimate’s bylaws.
At-Large Board Members. Each At-Large Board member must be a member of USA Ultimate in good standing. At-Large Board members shall not represent any one region, district or constituency group and shall act in the best interests of USA Ultimate without regard to geographic allegiance or other concerns.
Elite Athlete Board Members. Each Elite Athlete Board member must qualify as an Elite Athlete at the time of election and must be a current member of USA Ultimate in good standing. "Elite Athlete" shall mean a USA Ultimate member who has either (i) within the last ten (10) years preceding election, represented the United States in a world championship event recognized by WFDF for which a competitive selection process was administered by USA Ultimate or an international championship recognized by WFDF or (ii) within twenty-four (24) months prior to election (a) finished in the top half of USA Ultimate’s national championship or team selection competition for an international championship recognized by WFDF or (b) has been a member of USA Ultimate’s national team.
Appointed Board Members. Appointed Board members shall not represent any one region, district or constituency group and shall act in the best interests of USA Ultimate without regard to geographic allegiance or other concerns.
Independent Board Members. The Board of Directors, through its Nominating Committee, shall affirmatively make a determination as to the independence of each Independent Board member, and shall disclose those determinations to the Board of Directors. An "Independent Board member" shall be determined to have no material relationship with USA Ultimate, either directly or through an organization that has a material relationship with USA Ultimate. A relationship is "material" if, in the judgment of the Nominating Committee, it would interfere with the Board member’s independent judgment. To assist it in determining whether a Board member is independent, the Nominating Committee shall apply the following guidelines on a case by case basis
