Colorado Springs, Colo. (Aug. 6, 2015) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, announced today the date and location of its second annual Beach Championships. After an incredibly successful inaugural event in 2015, the 2016 Beach Championships will return to Virginia Beach, Va., on May 14-15.

The 2016 Beach Championships will be hosted by USA Ultimate, with the City of Virginia Beach Sports Marketing and Resort Management, Inc. serving as the local organizing committee.

"Virginia Beach is excited to welcome back the USA Ultimate athletes, coaches and fans," said Director of Virginia Beach Sports Marketing Nancy Helman. "We are looking forward to building on the success of the inaugural Beach Championships in 2015 and showing the best of what the City of Virginia Beach has to offer. Virginia Beach is dedicated to providing the best experience on and off the playing field."

Division guidelines, including information about how to qualify for the 2016 Beach Championships, will be available online in late fall. The 2015 Beach Championships included 56 teams competing across five divisions: men’s, mixed, women’s, mixed masters and grand masters.

The USA Ultimate beach division was established in 2010 to promote the sport and foster its growth and recognition, assist beach ultimate event organizers, provide players with information about upcoming events, work toward the establishment of a national playoff series, and act as a formal representative of the U.S. beach ultimate community at national and international events.
