Colorado Springs, Colo. (Oct. 6, 2015) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, announced today that Atlanta, Ga., will play host to the 2016 High School Southern Championships.

After successful years hosting the event in Winston-Salem, N.C. and Greenville, S.C. in 2014 and 2013, respectively, the High School Southern Championships will move to the Atlanta metro area and be held at the Georgia Soccer Park in the city of East Point in 2016. The event will be held May 14-15, and will be hosted by the Atlanta Flying Disc Club (AFDC) and Meet College Park, the area convention and visitors bureau.

"The Meet College Park CVB is excited that USA Ultimate and the Atlanta Flying Disc Club have selected the Georgia Soccer Park to host the 2016 USA Ultimate High School Southern Championships," said Cookie Smoak, president of the College Park Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We know they will enjoy our truly unique community, hospitality and amenities while they are here. We cannot wait to see you in 2016!"

The Atlanta area has long been a hub of youth ultimate in the South and is home to perennially competitive high school programs like the Paideia School and champion YCC teams, including the Atlanta ATLiens who won the U-19 boys’ division in 2013.

"The Atlanta Flying Disc Club is very excited to host the 2016 USA Ultimate High School Southern Championships in Atlanta next May," said AFDC Director of Ultimate Mark Poole. "Juniors ultimate has been a big focus of the AFDC for several years now, and George Li and his group of volunteers have done a fantastic job creating and pursuing opportunities for local area youth. We are excited to be working with Georgia Soccer Park and USA Ultimate to host another top-level event in the Atlanta area."
