2015 U.S. OPEN AND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS DATES AND LOCATIONS ANNOUNCED
Dates Set for 2015 and 2016 Triple Crown Tour Events
Colorado Springs, Colo. (Jan. 29, 2015) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, is excited to announce the dates and locations of the events that will comprise the
2015 Triple Crown Tour (TCT). The TCT represents the highest level of competitive ultimate in the world, with more than 600 teams competing each year in the men’s, mixed and women’s divisions.
The U.S. Open Championships and Convention will kick off the 2015 Triple Crown Tour July 2-5, at Voice of America Park in West Chester, Ohio, a short drive northeast of Cincinnati. Along with USA Ultimate, the Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association and the Butler County Visitors Bureau will serve as the local organizing committee for the fourth-annual event that attracts some of the world’s best teams each year.
"The Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association (CUPA), along with the Butler County Visitors Bureau, are very excited about bringing the 2015 USA Ultimate U.S. Open to Cincinnati," said tournament director Dale Wilker. "We’re all about raising the tournament experience for players, coaches, and especially the fans, and the exposure of hosting USA Ultimate events allows the ultimate community around the area to thrive."
"Butler County, Ohio, is proud and honored to welcome the USA Ultimate U.S. Open Championships and Convention to West Chester this summer," said Butler County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Mark Hecquet. "A strong and dynamic partnership between the Butler County Visitors Bureau and USA Ultimate has made this event a reality. We look forward to welcoming participants and spectators to Ohio and hosting a first-class event."
The 2015 Triple Crown Tour will continue throughout the summer with flight-specific events held all around the country and culminate at the 2015 National Championships, to be held once again at the FC Dallas Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas, Oct. 1-4.
"The Dallas Ultimate Association is honored to assist USA Ultimate in hosting the 2015 National Championships, as we did the last two years," said tournament director and Dallas Ultimate Association treasurer Jeff Jordan. "Our players, volunteers and fans from Texas and across the Southwest are eager once again to participate, support and watch the best ultimate in North America."
"We are thrilled to be working with DUA, the Frisco CVB and the world-class FC Dallas facility again," said Will Deaver, USA Ultimate Managing Director of Competition and Athlete Programs. "The date shift worked well with the facility’s event schedule for this year and will allow organizers and teams to adjust to the new schedule with the assurance of a top-notch capstone to the season. And with the new schedule set for 2016, we have already begun an expanded search to find the best location for our 2016 National Championship event."
To accommodate the shift away from the previous mid- to late-October National Championships’ weekend with as little impact as possible on regular-season event schedules, this year’s postseason championship series calendar will be condensed. Sectional championship events will take place the weekend of Aug. 29-30, with regional championship events following two weeks later, Sept. 12-13.
The Triple Crown Tour’s flight-specific events are scheduled for the following dates, pending site selections:
• Elite-Select Challenge – July 11-12, 2015
• Pro-Elite Challenge – Aug. 1-2, 2015
• Select Flight Invite (new in 2015) – Aug. 15-16, 2015
• Pro Flight Finale – Aug. 22-23, 2015
After the competition working groups met last December, several changes were announced to the 2015 Triple Crown tour, including an expansion of the U.S. Open competition field, the addition of the Select Flight Invite and new ways to qualify for the Pro Flight Finale. You can catch up on and find additional detail about each of the changes to the 2015 TCT
