USA Ultimate Announces 2015 College Championships Bid Allocations

Pittsburgh, Oregon Take Top Spots in Final Regular-Season Rankings; Franciscan, Truman State Top D-III
Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 2, 2015) – USA Ultimate today announced regional bid allocation for its two national championship tournaments next month and will release the final college regular season rankings.
In the Division I rankings, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Oregon ended the season ranked number one in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively.
Pittsburgh accrued its number-one ranking with a 26-2 record, capturing titles at Warm Up: A Florida Affair, the Stanford Invite and Easterns. Pitt steamrolled its way through those tournaments undefeated after two early-season losses to Central Florida and North Carolina at Carolina Kickoff.
Pittsburgh led the rankings ahead of North Carolina-Wilmington (30-4), Oregon (24-3), Colorado (17-4) and Texas A&M (11-4).
Oregon finished the season with a 26-1 record, which included a 25-game winning streak and tournament victories at Colluvium, President’s Day Invitational and the Stanford Invite. Their only blemish came in the penultimate game of their season – a loss at the hands of the University of British Columbia at the Northwest Challenge.
Oregon completed the regular season in the top spot ahead of British Columbia (12-2), Stanford (17-6), UCLA (18-7) and Washington (16-4).
In the Division III rankings – for institutions with enrollment of fewer than 7,500 students – Franciscan University (Steubenville, Ohio) and Truman State (Kirksville, Mo.) ended the season ranked number one in the men’s and women’s divisions.
Franciscan went undefeated with a perfect 10-0 record, winning both the Midwestern Invite and the CWURL Memorial, while Truman State finished 17-3 and won the Old Capitol Open.
Rounding out the top five of the men’s D-III rankings were Amherst College (12-1), Brandeis University (13-2), Elon University (10-5) and Lewis & Clark College (8-2).
In the women’s D-III rankings, Rice University (17-7), Grinnell College (12-8), St. Benedict College (7-4) and Valparaiso University (10-3) completed the top five.
With the 2015 college regular season rankings finalized, the 800+ teams that play in USA Ultimate’s structure now turn their focus to the postseason and qualifying for one of two national championship events – the 2015 College Championships, May 22-25 in Milwaukee, Wis., or the Division III College Championships, May 16-17 in Rockford, Ill.
These final rankings have determined how many bids each region receives to both championship events.
