Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 11, 2015) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, announced today official affiliation with the Triangle Flying Disc Association (TFDA), as well as its youth division, the Triangle Youth Ultimate League (TYUL). TFDA is the local disc association that organizes ultimate in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill region of North Carolina and is the most recent addition to USA Ultimate’s Affiliate Program.

The Triangle Flying Disc Association joins 12 other local leagues as official USA Ultimate Affiliates: Albany Ultimate Disc Association, Atlanta Flying Disc Club Juniors, Columbus Ultimate Disc Association, Connecticut Ultimate Club, DiscNY, Indiana Ultimate Foundation, Jacksonville Ultimate League, Maine Ultimate, Minnesota Youth Ultimate, Missoula Ultimate Federation, Neuqua Valley Ultimate and Ultimate Players League of Austin. As part of the agreement, these leagues receive additional resources and support from USA Ultimate designed to assist with the expansion and promotion of grassroots programs and serve local players.

"For nearly 20 years, TFDA has organized the ultimate community within the Triangle region of North Carolina," said Tristan Green, program director for TFDA. "We’re thrilled to announce a national partnership to continue the sustained growth of ultimate in the Triangle."

"We are thrilled to have TFDA as our latest affiliate," said USA Ultimate CEO Tom Crawford. "The affiliate program is really taking off, and TFDA is exactly the kind of organization we want for our local/regional partner. They offer high-quality youth programs to help grow the sport, have the capacity and desire to host our major events, and have just the entrepreneurial spirit and mindset we are looking for!"

TFDA is currently the largest local disc organization recognized as a USA Ultimate Affiliate. More than 1,200 adults participate in TFDA’s 10 annual adult leagues, and more than 800 youth ultimate players participate annually across TYUL’s youth summer league, 28-team high school league and 12+ team middle school season. TFDA also organizes spring and fall Learn to Play clinics with more than 100 participants, four high school tournaments annually and at least one middle school tournament each year.

"At the heart of this partnership is our continued emphasis on growing the quality and quantity of ultimate programs for participants and members of TFDA," said TFDA Board President Jason H. Parker. "Our community is growing and evolving dramatically, and we now have a unique opportunity to further bolster our reputation as one of the top ultimate communities in the United States."

TFDA is set to host the 2016 College Championships in Raleigh, N.C., May 27-30, next year.

USA Ultimate’s League Affiliate Program was launched two years ago and represents a significant component of the organization’s six-year strategic plan, which places an emphasis on growing youth, college and league ultimate. It is also a part of USA Ultimate’s ongoing efforts to create a larger, stronger local ultimate infrastructure around the United States.

USA Ultimate-affiliated leagues can benefit from various materials and programs that assist with education, instruction and training initiatives, as well as several streams of financial support. Affiliated leagues receive access to USA Ultimate’s Learn to Play Program, as well as curricula designed for physical education in a classroom setting, coaching education and observer certification. USA Ultimate also assists affiliates with the facilitation of community recreation programs, youth camps and college program outreach.

Financial resources are available to USA Ultimate-affiliated leagues in the form of grants, discounts and rebate dollars, while leagues can also benefit from an insurance program covering events, players, directors and officers.

While each league remains a separate and distinct entity that exists to serve its constituents, elects a board of directors and manages affairs under its own set of bylaws, USA Ultimate also maintains a close programmatic and strategic relationship with its affiliates.
