USA Ultimate

Boulder, Colo. (Jan. 5, 2015) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, announced today the hiring of a new team member in the Competition & Athlete Programs department.

Sarah Powers was named the new Coordinator – Youth & Education Programs and will assist in the management of USA Ultimate’s youth and education programs. Her responsibilities will include program registration and processing; program direction, management, marketing and communication; personnel and committee support; and other program-related duties and projects. She will work closely with USA Ultimate’s Learn to Play initiative, Coaching Development Program, Observer Certification Program, rules and Spirit of the Game education, and other youth-related programs. 

Powers holds degrees in international studies and Spanish from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. Professionally, she has spent the last three years working for Ohio State University’s Department of Accounting & Management Information Systems as a program assistant and an office associate. Her organizational and project management skills as well as her experience coordinating and instituting new programs will help her make an effective transition into her new role in USA Ultimate’s Competition & Athlete Programs department.

Her experience as a local ultimate organizer will provide a great foundation to help her ramp up quickly, and we’re excited to have her teaming up with Youth and Education Manager Mike Lovinguth and Youth Competition Manager Connor Maloney to continue to drive the growth and quality of our youth programs."

Powers began playing ultimate at Allegheny College and continued to play while working abroad in Madrid. Upon returning to the United States, she became an active member of the Columbus Ultimate Disc Association (CUDA). She served as the volunteer coordinator for USA Ultimate’s 2014 Division III College Championships and has worked with CUDA as a media coordinator. She has also volunteered her time as a high school ultimate coach and worked alongside CUDA to institute a women’s ultimate clinic to increase the number of women participating in their leagues.

Powers will join the USA Ultimate headquarters team in Colorado Springs in early January, after relocating from Columbus, Ohio.
