Colorado Springs, Colo. (Nov. 30, 2015) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, announced today the hiring of a new team member in the Competition & Athlete Programs department.

Tom Manewitz was named the new Manager of Competition & Athlete Programs – College and will oversee USA Ultimate’s college division programs, U-23 National Team and other programs throughout the year. He will assist in the management of events, including event direction and management, registration and processing, event communication, and support of personnel and relevant committees. In addition, he will oversee USA Ultimate's outreach programs designed to further grow and develop college ultimate.

Manewitz holds a law degree from the University of Minnesota, as well as bachelor’s degree in history from The George Washington University. Professionally, he has spent time working as a camp director, a family welfare employment aid with Americorps, and a law clerk in the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office. He has spent the last two years working as a commercial and corporate associate for Fredrikson & Byron, P.A., in Minneapolis. His organizational and communications skills and experience working across multiple fields with a wide range of stakeholders will help him make a smooth transition into his new role in USA Ultimate’s Competition & Athlete Programs department.

"Tom brings a great set of skills and experiences, from on and off the field, to his new role managing our college programs," said Will Deaver, Managing Director of Competition & Athlete Programs. "We believe he will be a great addition to the USA Ultimate team and look forward to having him continue to grow and develop our largest competition division."

Manewitz is a long-time member of the ultimate community. He began playing while in high school and continued to compete and served as president of his team while a student at George Washington. Currently, he plays in tournaments and local leagues and also volunteers as a high school coach at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minn., as well as at national-level events in his area.

"Since the age of 14, I've had the great fortune to grow, both as an athlete and as a person, through the sport of ultimate. For me, there has been no more important period of growth than the time I spent playing college ultimate at George Washington. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to this community and to help build this sport and the college division. It is an absolute privilege to join the team at USA Ultimate."

Manewitz will be in Denver for the annual Competition Working Group meeting of national volunteers and will officially join the USA Ultimate headquarters team in January, after relocating from Minneapolis.

USA Ultimate would like to thank outgoing Manager of Competition and Athlete Programs Ty Krajec for his great work and steady stewardship of the college division over the last two years. We wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors.
