Boulder, Colo. (Dec. 9, 2014) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, announced today the hiring of a new team member in the Competition & Athlete Programs department.

Connor Maloney was recently named the new Manager of Competition & Athlete Programs – Youth and will oversee USA Ultimate’s youth division programs, specifically the organization’s high school and youth club competition structures, as well as other programs throughout the year. He will assist in the management of events, including event direction and management, registration and processing, event communication, and support of personnel and relevant committees.

Maloney holds a degree in business administration from the University of Mary Washington. Professionally, he has spent time in various project management roles, including the last four years with Slait Consulting in Richmond, Va. He also spent a year working with Americorps and a year as a backcountry ranger in New Zealand’s Tongariro National Park. His organizational skills and experience working with a wide range of clients across diverse projects will help him make a smooth transition into USA Ultimate’s Competition & Athlete Programs department.

"We are excited to have Connor joining the team," said Will Deaver, Managing Director of Competition & Athlete Programs. "He brings project and staff management experience to the program to complement his experience both playing and teaching ultimate at the youth level and beyond. His enthusiasm to work with other passionate staff and volunteers will be key to helping lead the development of our youth programs and events. It was great to have him at this past weekend’s Competition Working Group meeting, and we look forward to having him hit the ground running in January."

Maloney is a long-time member of the ultimate community. He began playing while in high school and started his school’s team. Since that time, he has competed with USA Ultimate’s U-19 National Team and participated in both the college and club series. Maloney has also been a prolific ultimate organizer, helping run youth clinics in the Richmond and Washington, D.C. areas, coaching youth and college teams and helping to organize Virginia’s first high school state championship events.

Maloney will join the USA Ultimate headquarters team in early January, after relocating from Richmond, Va.
