Colorado Springs, Colo. (March 29, 2018) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, is excited to announce the addition of Grace Kiel to the organization’s national volunteer structure. Kiel was recently named the first-ever Division III Women’s College Coordinator.

In her new position, Kiel will oversee and help organize the D-III elements of the USA Ultimate college regular season and postseason championship series. She will assist conference and regional coordinators and facilitate communication of Division III-specific issues with USA Ultimate. Kiel will work closely with USA Ultimate staff and the college working group on competition-related issues and will also work with the Division III College Championships tournament director to ensure a high-quality event.

"I'm very passionate about women's ultimate, especially at the college level, as a D-III team is how I fell in love with the sport," said Kiel. "I'm excited to be able to extend USA Ultimate's resources to D-III women's teams and support the growth of the division as a whole. I'm looking forward to making tangible and positive changes for D-III women's college teams in the ultimate community as a member of the college working group."

Kiel joins Kevin Kula as national-level volunteers for D-III college ultimate. Kula has served as the national D-III college director since the division was formed in 2010. With the addition of Kiel, Kula will focus his efforts on the men’s division.

Kiel found ultimate at Kalamazoo College, a D-III college in Kalamazoo, Mich., where she served as captain of the Queen Beez. Her college ultimate experience and working to organize the team with little support from the athletic department or student involvement office, inspired her to get more involved with her local ultimate organization after graduating. She is currently president of the Kalamazoo Ultimate Disc League and a member of the middle school planning committee for Kalamazoo United Youth Ultimate. In her professional life, Kiel is an office staff assistant at BDNIHC in Portage, Mich.

USA Ultimate’s D-III division was formalized in 2010 with the addition of the Division III College Championships. More than 200 teams compete in the division’s postseason championship series each year.
