Four-Time Olympian and U.S. National Team Captain to Address 2014 U.S. Open Convention Attendees

Jenny Potter and George Stubbs Headline Keynote Address, Presented by Surly
Boulder, Colo. (July 2, 2014) – In its third year, the 2014 USA Ultimate U.S. Open Championships & Convention will be held in Minnesota’s Twin Cities. The National Sports Center in Blaine will host the competition portion of the event, along with many of the associated convention sessions, but the Embassy Suites – Brooklyn Center will house the keynote address.
Four-time Olympian and four-time medalist Jenny Potter, along with U.S. World Games captain and gold medalist George Stubbs, will address attendees of the U.S. Open Championships & Convention at the keynote session on Thursday, July 3. They will discuss what it is like to try out for and make a United States national team as well as the process of training and building relationships with teammates. They will also describe their experiences in what it is like to represent the United States at the highest level of their respective sports and win on the world stage.
Jenny Potter competed at four consecutive Olympic Games from 1998-2010 as a member of Team USA Ice Hockey. She won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal in her four trips to the Olympics. She was also an assistant captain of the national team in 2010. She was also a decorated athlete during her college career at the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Potter has been featured on the Tonight Show and Ellen, along with several national newspapers including USA Today.
Currently, Potter is the head hockey coach at Trinity College and, along with her husband, owns and operates Potter’s Pure Hockey, which offers summer training camps for hockey players of all levels.
George Stubbs was one of two player-elected captains of the U.S. National Team that represented the United States at the 2013 World Games in Cali, Colombia. Stubbs currently resides in Somerville, Mass., where he plays and captains in the club men’s division for perennial powerhouse Ironside. While playing ultimate at Harvard University, he won the Callahan Award, college ultimate’s most prestigious award.
Before competing at the 2013 World Games, Stubbs had already represented the United States at the World Junior Ultimate Championships in 2006 and 2008 where he helped the U.S. win gold medals both times. He also took home a gold medal as an assistant coach of the U.S. Junior National Team from the 2012 World Championships, a feat he aims to repeat in 2014 as a current assistant coach of the 2014 U.S. Junior National Team. Professionally, Stubbs is an Organizational and Executive Development Associate at Vistaprint.
Potter and Stubbs will address participants and attendees of the 2014 U.S. Open Championships and Convention at the Embassy Suites – Brooklyn Center at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 3.
