Colorado Springs, Colo. (March 7, 2018) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, released the first set of weekly college division rankings today. Rankings will be run weekly through the remainder of the college regular season, which ends April 1. The rankings will be used to determine regional bid allocations to the 2018 College Championships; the D-I championship event is set to take place over Memorial Day Weekend in Milwaukee, Wis., while the nation’s top D-III teams will compete May 19-20, in Rockford, Ill.

In this first iteration of the rankings, North Carolina and the California-San Diego take the top spots in men’s and women’s Division I, respectively. In Division III, Lancaster Bible sits atop the men’s rankings, while Colby takes the overall top spot in the women’s division.

The minimum threshold for inclusion in the rankings at this point in the season is five games. The threshold will increase to 10 games later in the season.

The rankings algorithm was updated after the end of the 2018 Triple Crown Tour season to address the issue of relatively short games having the same impact on the rankings as games that reach a higher number of total points. Also new this year, the rankings results files will be publicly available each week. The data will be accessible in the rankings section of the college landing page at usaultimate.org/college
