Boulder, Colo. (February 21, 2011)—The 2011 USA Ultimate Division III College Championships will be held in Buffalo, N.Y., May 21-22, the National Governing Body for the sport of Ultimate announced today.

The event, which caters to Ultimate teams from colleges and universities with enrollment of less than 7,500 students, will once again crown national champions in both Open and Women’s divisions. After introducing a Division III championship event last season in Appleton, Wis., USA Ultimate has awarded the 2011 bid to Buffalo – a community familiar with hosting high-level Ultimate tournaments, including the 2010 USA Ultimate High School Eastern Championships.

The two-day competition will take place at the Lakeview Road Recreation Area in the Buffalo-area community of Hamburg and will be hosted by the Buffalo Ultimate Club.

“Along with the entire Western New York Ultimate Community, we are thrilled to be hosting the 2011 USA Ultimate Division III College Championships,” said tournament director Kevin Jacobs. “This is a great opportunity to promote and further the development of Ultimate in western New York.

Approximately 30 Ultimate squads and more than 700 student-athletes from across the country are expected to compete in the second-annual event.

“We look forward to welcoming the athletes, families, and fans to Buffalo,” commented Pete Harvey, Manager for Sport Development at the Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We will provide a first-class venue and experience in a community that has a history of hosting successful athletic events.”

Last season, Carleton College and Pacific Lutheran University won the Open and Women’s division titles respectively.

Today’s announcement completes the schedule of USA Ultimate’s 2011 championship events.
