Day 5 of the World Club Championships

The World Club Championships is in its fifth day of play, and the 19 US teams are still going strong.
In the Open Division, the teams still had one more round of power pool before getting placed into playoffs. Chain Lightning was able to capitalize on Skogs Ultimate’s turnovers and beat the Sweden team 17-10. On the other hand, Doublewide, who was in the same pool as Chain Lightning, was narrowly defeated by Sweden’s Viksjofors IF Ultimate, 15-14, knocking them out of the championship bracket.
In another pool, Revolver and Sockeye were able to hold their own and come out victorious. Robbie Cahill lead Revolver in assists to a 17-10 victory over Denmark’s Ragnarok. Meanwhile, Andrew Fleming’s scoring helped Sockeye with a 17-8 win over Canada’s Phoenix.
Also in the Open Division, Ironside’s Peter Prial was on fire with five goals in their 15-12 victory over Australia’s Heads of State.
In the championship bracket, Chain Lighting was able to defeat Canada’s Invictus in the quarterfinals. Revolver also moved into the semi’s with a 17-8 victory over Australia’s Colony. In another quarterfinal match, Sockeye narrowly defeated Ironside in a 17-15 game. So tomorrow Sockeye will go up against Chain Lightning in the semifinals.
In all the other Divisions, today marked the start of the playoffs. In the Women’s Division all of the US teams found themselves placed in the Championship bracket. Fury quickly moved onto the quarterfinals with a decisive 17-7 victory over the Czech Republic’s Hot Beaches. As did Riot with a 17-3 win over Canada’s Zephyr. Riot then continued their winning ways by defeating Japan’s HUCK 17-14 in the quarters. Tomorrow, Riot will go up against Fury in the semifinals.
Brute Squad and Zeitgeist found themselves facing off against each other in the first round of championship play. The two spirited teams put up a good game with Brute Squad narrowly beating out Zeitgeist, 14-12, to advance to the quarterfinals. In quarterfinals, Brute Squad narrowly beat out Japan’s MUD, 15-14, for a trip to semifinals.
For Showdown and Backhoe, the results we not as positive. Backhoe found themselves losing to Japan’s UNO, 17-9, and dropping out of the Championship bracket. Showdown also had a tough first round, losing to Germany’s Woodchicas, 17-10.
In the Mixed Division, Axis of C’Ville was eliminated from the championship bracket in the first round by Canada’s Onyx who was able to capitalize on Axis’ turnovers, scoring nine goals off them. In the end, Axis of C’Ville ended their championship run with a 16-10 loss.
Quiet Coyote made a strong showing in the bracket by advancing all the way to semifinals, beating out Great Britain’s Jeremy Codhand and Austria’s Upsadaisy. The will face Onyx in the semi’s tomorrow.
The Chad Larson Experience team also made it to semis for tomorrow after outing Iku! and then AMP in quarters. The Chad Larson Experience will face off against Mental Toss Flycoons in the semifinals tomorrow. Mental Toss Flycoons made it to the semifinals with a victory over Germany's Frizzly Bears and Australia's Smurf.
In the Masters Division, all three of the teams made it to the quarterfinals. Troubled Past had no problem advancing to the semifinals, beating out Germany’s Wall City 17-5. Surly and O.L.D. S.A.G. on the other hand wound up facing off in the quarterfinals. In the end, Surly beat out the rivial American team, 17-12. Troubled Past went on to beat out Australia’s Eastern Greys, 17-8, and a spot in the finals. Surly on the other hand had a little more difficulty in the semi’s. But in the end, Surly beat Finland’s Helsinki Ultimate team, 15-13, and a trip to the finals for tomorrow. O.L.D. S.A.G. will play for fifth place tomorrow.
