Competition Schedule for 2013 USA Ultimate National Championships Announced

Boulder, Colo. (September 24, 2013)—USA Ultimate announced today the competition schedule for next month’s National Championships in Frisco, Texas.
The inaugural Triple Crown Tour concludes with the four-day tournament, Oct. 17-20, and will host 48 teams from across the United States. In addition to a national title, participating teams will compete for invitations to the 2014 WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships and U.S. Open, as well as a spot in USA Ultimate’s Pro Flight and prize money.
As previously announced, Thursday’s schedule includes pool play, while Friday’s schedule features elimination brackets (round of 16 and quarterfinals), Pro Flight qualification bracket play and additional placement games. Semifinals and a potential play-in game to the 2014 Pro Flight highlight Saturday’s schedule, and Sunday will showcase the championship games and third-place matchups (if necessary).

In addition to a national title, an invitation to the U.S. Open and prize money, spots in the 2014 Triple Crown Tour’s Pro Flight are on the line, as are invitations to the 2014 WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships. Here are some more notable details regarding Pro Flight and World Championships qualification:

If the 2013 regular season champion qualifies for the quarterfinals, then:|

The four highest-ranked teams (based on regular season rankings) of the round of 16 losers will play in a 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 qualifying round.

The two lowest-ranked teams (based on regular season rankings) of the quarterfinal losers will play the winners of the above games.

o |
The winners of these games earn the last two spots in the 2014 Pro Flight. |

If the regular season champion DOES NOT qualify for the quarterfinals (note: the 2013 regular season champion automatically qualifies for a spot in the 2014 Pro Flight), then:

The four highest-ranked teams (based on regular season rankings) of the round of 16 losers will play in a 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 qualifying round (excluding the 2013 regular season champion who gets slotted into the 13-16 bracket for consolation games).

The two lowest-ranked teams (based on regular season rankings) of the quarterfinal losers play the winners of the above games.

The winners of the above games play for 7th place and the last available spot in the 2014 Pro Flight. |
Waitlist for the 2014 WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships
Waitlist placement will be based on final standings at the 2013 National Championships. If the regular season champion does not make the quarterfinals, they will be slotted into the 8th place slot for purposes of the WUCC waitlist, behind the other Pro Flight teams and ahead of other teams, regardless of their finish in the 13-16 consolation bracket.
