Boulder, Colo. (October 22, 2010)— USA Ultimate, the National Governing Body for the Sport of Ultimate in the United States, announced today the 2011 USA Ultimate College Championships will take place from May 27-30 in Boulder, Colo.

The event, which annually crowns the Division I men’s and women’s Ultimate national champions, will be hosted by Grass Roots Ultimate (GRU).

The four-day tournament will be held at Pleasant View Sports Complex, site of the 1999 and 2008 championships.

The annual championships serve as the season’s culmination, hosting 40 Women’s and Open Division teams from colleges and universities across North America. Although more than 700 teams and 12,000 student-athletes enter the college regular season in April with an eye on earning a bid to nationals, only 20 squads from each division will eventually make it through the Conference and Regional qualifiers to take center stage in Boulder two months later.

“Grass Roots Ultimate is proud to announce that we will again be hosting the college championships.” said Sonya Wytinck, president of GRU. “We are looking forward to hosting the Ultimate community from across the nation and sharing our favorite town while playing on the great fields in the shadows of the beautiful Flatirons.”

Boulder boasts a strong history of hosting major, national-level Ultimate tournaments, including the 2010 USA Ultimate Grand Masters and Masters Women’s Championships and the 2006 USA Ultimate High School Western Championships in addition a pair of college championships. The city also is the site of USA Ultimate’s national headquarters.

Teams from the University of Florida (Open Division) and the University of Oregon (Women’s Division) will look to reprise their role as champions when the road to nationals begins in less than six months.

Additional details regarding the 2011 edition, including schedules, broadcast partners and event sponsors will be announced in the coming weeks and months.
