This August, 44 of the best youth Ultimate players in America will be traveling to Germany to participate in the 2010 World Junior Ultimate Championships. But first, the Open and Girl’s teams will meet at Amherst College next week for a weeklong training camp hosted by USA Ultimate.

Five members of Team USA have agreed to blog about thier experiences for usaultimate.org - Bethany Kaylor, Sally LandefeldMaddy RoorbachNick Stuart and Matt Barnes. Follow their progress here as they train, travel and compete throughout the next few weeks.

Our sixth entry comes from Bethany as she prepares to leave the United States.

Harumph. The Second Blog.
My location: The Boston airport
My situation: it is 4:29 PM—my flight to Germany boards at 9:15 PM
My thoughts: The curried chicken I got from "Wok and Roll" may not have been the best idea. But it was quite tasty and I do love me some fortune cookies…

Today (Friday) was Team USA’s last official day of training camp at Amherst College. It was absolutely an experience that I won’t forget, what with two-a-day practices and amazing teammates and non-air-conditioned dorms.
I’m not going to go into the logistics of training camp, because quite frankly, it is probably boring to read and I don’t really feel like writing about it. This should sum it up:
I am extremely sore.
Basically, we ran offenses and defenses and scrimmaged a ton; thus, my body aches. Although draining, my conditioning this summer definitely paid off.
Last night (Thursday), our team scrimmaged some Amherst women, aka Brutesquad. Although we lost quite heartily (15-3), our team learned a lot. And you know what? (I enjoy posing rhetorical questions, so feel no need to actually ask yourself "What?") We actually played really well. Sure, our offense was a bit jittery but our defense was insane. All of our players played around a third of the points, but even when we weren’t on the field, we were on the sideline, talking to our players. A ton of locals (Amherstians?) came to watch and the bleachers were filled, so that was admittedly pretty sweet.
It is now 4:45 PM and I feel as if this blog is going to end in the next couple of sentences. But I would like to end with this:
A little boy behind me just yelled to his father, "Watch me eat water!" He is now glaring at me. I hope my kid is like that.
