Applications for 2016 U-20 National Teams Now Open

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sept. 3, 2015) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Under-20 National Teams that will represent the U.S. at the 2016 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC).
Teams will be selected from applicants around the country to travel to Wroclaw, Poland, to compete for the U.S. on either the open or girls’ U-20 National Team. Head coaches for the two U.S. teams were announced in July. Chase-Sparling Beckley will lead the open team, and Jamie Nuwer will lead the girls’ team.
Tryout camps will be held for invited applicants in January 2016. One camp will be held on the east coast, and one camp will be held on the west coast. A maximum of 50 athletes of each gender will be invited to attend each camp where the U-20 National Team coaches will evaluate the players using various criteria.
"Team U.S.A. coaches are interested in well-rounded players who adapt quickly to new concepts, applying what they already know about ultimate to the frameworks that we teach," said Sparling-Beckley. "We will be looking for players that excel in athleticism, skills and sportsmanship. We consider every part of our team-building process from application through tryouts to the end of the tournament a vital part of our team identity and are seeking players who are ready to be ambassadors of our sport worldwide."
Nuwer echoed Sparling-Beckley’s sentiments, "Generally, we will be looking for players that excel in athleticism, skills and sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is a must. Each girl must have either high athleticism or high skills, preferably both. Anyone who wants to try out should be prepared to be very fit and showcase her talents."

The deadline to submit a completed application is Monday, Oct. 12.
A mandatory team training camp will take place in the lead-up to WJUC 2016. The World Championships are set to be held July 31-Aug. 6, in Poland at the same site where the 2017 World Games will take place. The event will be hosted by the World Flying Disc Federation and the Polish Ultimate Players Association.
