Andy Lee Named Director of Marketing and Communications by UPA

BOULDER, Colo. – The Ultimate Players Association, the National Governing Body for the sport of Ultimate in the United States, named Andy Lee as Director of Marketing and Communications. The announcement was made by UPA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Tom Crawford. Lee brings with him more than 13 years of high-level marketing and communications experience in the sports industry, including positions at Team Sports, Inc. and USA Cycling.


Lee will be responsible for establishing a strategic business plan and marketing platform for the UPA, inclusive of corporate sponsorship, licensing and advertising revenue streams. He will also serve as the organizational spokesperson while overseeing all communications efforts, including media and public relations, print materials, online publishing and social media.

Lee joins the UPA national headquarters in Boulder, Colo. most recently from his position as Director of Communications at USA Cycling in Colorado Springs. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science with an emphasis on Sport Management. Lee’s career in the Olympic movement began at USA Triathlon, where he was an intern prior to receiving his degree.


Following graduation, Lee entered the cycling industry with Team Sports Inc., a Wisconsin-based sports management firm specializing in managing professional cycling teams. There he served as the Director of the Hilfiger Sports Mountain Bike Project and Director of Operations for the Saturn Cycling Team. In 2003, Lee left Wisconsin to become the Director of Communications at USA Cycling, where he spent seven years.

The Ultimate Players Association (UPA) serves as the National Governing Body for the sport of Ultimate in the United States. The UPA is a non-profit organization with national office headquarters based in Boulder, Colo., and focuses foremost on the needs of its athletes while improving access to the sport and enhancing members’ overall experience. Founded in 1979, the UPA is one of the first flying disc sport organizations in the world and is also the largest, with more than 30,000 members and an extensive national volunteer network. This year the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) named Ultimate the fastest-growing team sport in the nation.


The UPA is also a member of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), which is a member of the General Association of International Sport Federations (GAISF) and the International World Games Association (IWGA). The UPA annually sends multiple National Teams to represent the United States at a variety of international events, including the World Games, which operates under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
