2017 World Games Coaching Applications Open

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Oct. 5, 2016) - USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States and proud member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, is seeking the ideal coaching staff (one head coach and one assistant coach) to help select, prepare and lead the U.S. team for the 2017 World Games.

The World Games is the largest, most prestigious and highest-profile international event in which ultimate is contested. Through the World Games, the International World Games Association - a member of the International Olympic Committee - provides an unparalleled opportunity for the sport's top national teams. Only the top five countries in the world, as determined by the World Flying Disc Federation, plus the host country are invited to compete at this event.
 
USA Ultimate has sent teams to each World Games since ultimate was introduced at the event in 2001, earning three golds and one silver medal. The U.S. again qualified for the next edition of the World Games, to be held in 2017, by virtue of its collective performance at the 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships. The competition is mixed, with a select group of the best male and female players representing the country and the sport to the world. 
 
Qualifications:
 
- Head Coach: A very strong preference will be given to coaches who have experienced success, with both genders, at the club and/or international levels.
- Assistanct Coach: A strong preference will be given to coaches who have experienced success at the club and international levels, with consideration to their coaching experiences with both genders.
- Must be USAU Level I Certified.
- Must have passed (obtain a green light) an NCSI background check.
- Must be a current USAU coach member.
- Must be able to help plan and attend tryouts during the fall or winter of 2016-17 (time and location TBD).
- Must be able to to help plan and attend team training sessions during the spring and summer of 2017, leading up to the World Games
- Must be able to attend the World Games to be held July 18-24, 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland.
 
Coaches will be selected by the USA Ultimate Coaching Committee and USA Ultimate staff.
 
The World Games Team coaching staff will have a demonstrated commitment to strong character and sportsmanship and will be chosen based on the following criteria:
 
- Ultimate coaching experience, including at the international level.
- Ability and willingness to work with USA Ultimate administration.
- Ability and willingness to serve as a representative of USA Ultimate to team members and to the U.S. and international ultimate communities.
- Ability to work with players of both genders.
