USA Ultimate

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Nov. 18, 2016) – Today, USA Ultimate released application and tryout process information for the 2017 National Team that will represent the U.S. at the World Games. 

The U.S. National Team will be selected by the World Games coaching staff – Alex Ghesquiere (Washington, D.C.) and Matty Tsang (Oakland, Calif.) – along with USA Ultimate national team staff after a single tryout camp to be held next year. 

All members of the 2016 men’s, mixed and women’s national teams that competed at the World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC), as well as the members of the 2013 World Games team, will receive invitations to the tryout camp. Remaining spots at the camp will be filled from the applicant pool, based on information gleaned from the WUGC tryout process, the 2016 USA Ultimate Triple Crown Tour season and the application process.

Twenty athletes – 10 men and 10 women – will be selected for the U.S. National Team for purposes of training, team building and final player evaluation. Fourteen players – seven men and seven women – will be selected for the traveling team that will compete at the 2017 World Games.

The World Games is ultimate’s biggest stage. The event is hosted by the International World Games Association, which is supported by the International Olympic Committee. The 2017 World Games will be held in Wroclaw, Poland, July 20-30. The flying disc competition will take place July 21-23.

Ultimate (flying disc) was introduced at the World Games in 2001. The U.S. took silver in the event’s inaugural year and has won gold at each of the last three World Games competitions.
