The Hall of Fame Committee is pleased to announce the slate of candidates selected for consideration for the 2017 Hall of Fame class. This year, 11 open and nine women's candidates will be considered for up to 10 spots in the Ultimate Hall of Fame. There are also two contributor candidates under consideration this year.

Candidate-submitted player/contributor histories are included below.

Open:

Congratulations to these Ultimate Hall of Fame finalists.  It is a high honor to be selected from the respective Open, Women’s and Contributor Peer Pools. From this slate of 20 final player candidates, up to 10 individuals and up to two contributors will be selected for induction into the Hall of Fame (HoF) by the Voting Committee, the elected members of the HoF.

Any member of the ultimate community who is familiar with these candidates is encouraged to provide input and any comments you would like to be considered by the voters. This feedback, both laudatory and critical, is an important part of the committee's consideration. We encourage candid participation from all who have personal experience with the candidates. All feedback will be kept strictly confidential and will be available only to the HoF voters as part of their deliberations.

Please complete this Google Form (responses will be anonymous unless otherwise designated) with any and all feedback.

The survey will close Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017.

Thank you,

Mark Licata
Summary:  UPA Disc Standards Chair ’90-‘11; UPA Sectional Coordinator/ Regional Coordinator/ Tournament Director/ Managing Director/ Director of Competition/ Board member '86-'93

In his long career of service to the community and sport of Ultimate, Mark has made many contributions, all in a volunteer role. He has served as a Sectional Coordinator, Regional Coordinator, Tournament Director, as UPA Managing Director, Director of Competition, and Board member. However, Mark’s greatest contribution was as the Disc Standards tsar. With his engineering background, Mark was able to bring a scientific approach to the Ultimate Community in understanding how the plastic they played with affected the disc, such a crucial item for the sport. It was his work that demonstrated the reason for the deterioration in the Wham-O discs that led to the decision for the UPA to adopt the Discraft UltraStar in 1991 as the official disc. He served as the UPA/USAU Disc Standards Chairperson from 1994-2011, and developed the standards in the late 1990s to ensure that discs from other manufacturers could be tested properly to see if they met the standards for use by the Ultimate community. He remained active in Ultimate until his untimely death in May 2014.

Mary has been the driving force behind the organization of youth ultimate organizer in Seattle, WA for over 30 years, which has been instrumental in developing the Seattle area into the powerhouse it is at all levels of the sport. She co-started a youth division of the Puget Sound Ultimate League in 1986 and, under Disc Northwest, established their first youth league in 1993. Mary continued helping with youth leagues and tournaments whenever she was needed. In 2000, Mary helped select the first ever USA high school girls team for the UPA and coached the team to a championship at the WFDF 2000 World Championships in Heilbronn, Germany. As an accomplished player of both Ultimate and overall events, Mary was a co-founder of the first women’s Ultimate team in Seattle in 1983 and also co-founded the team that became Women on the Verge.  Mary and her Seattle club team won the WFDF World Club Ultimate Championships in 1995 and 1997.
