2014 TRIPLE CROWN TOUR KICKS OFF JUNE 14
Boulder, Colo. (June 12, 2014)—With the college and spring high school ultimate seasons now in the rear view mirror, the continent’s top ultimate players and teams take center stage as the 2014 Triple Crown Tour season kicks off with the season’s first USA Ultimate-sanctioned tournament this weekend.
With several hundred teams set to compete in this year’s Triple Crown Tour and compete for an invitation to the National Championships, the calendar opens with the Cackalacky Challenge, a women’s event June 14-15 in Efland, N.C. The early-season event features several of the nation’s top teams, including defending national champions Scandal (Washington, D.C.), and Elite Flight teams Phoenix (Raleigh, N.C.) and Ozone (Atlanta, Ga.).
The Triple Crown Tour regular season consists of all USA Ultimate-sanctioned tournaments, including a handful of high-profile featured events throughout the summer and fall, and culminates with a postseason qualifying series and the National Championships in mid-October.
The first of several featured events on the Triple Crown Tour is the U.S. Open Ultimate Championships, scheduled for July 3-6 in Minnesota’s Twin Cities. The U.S. Open is followed by the Pro-Elite Challenge, July 12-13 in Loudoun County, Va. (Men and Women) and Middletown, N.Y. (Mixed), the Elite-Select Challenge, August 2-3 in Aurora, Colo. (Men, Women & Mixed) and the Pro Flight Finale, Aug. 30-31.
