REVOLVER, POLAR BEARS, BRUTE SQUAD CLAIM SECOND LEG OF TRIPLE CROWN WITH NO. 1 RANKS
Final Regular Season Rankings, Bid Allocation to National Championships Announced
Boulder, Colo. (September 2, 2014)—Revolver (San Francisco, Calif.), Polar Bears (San Francisco, Calif.) and Brute Squad (Boston, Mass.) each won the second leg of the 2014 Triple Crown Tour in their respective divisions, finishing atop the regular-season rankings following last weekend’s Pro Flight Finale.
Revolver (9-4) narrowly edged out Pro Flight Finale winner Machine (Chicago, Ill.) for the top spot in the men’s rankings after a tournament victory at the U.S. Open and a pool play win over Machine last weekend. Machine turned in a 14-4 record that also included a win at the Pro-Elite Challenge and a second-place finish at Chicago Heavyweights. The top five was rounded out by Rhino (Portland, Ore.), Ironside (Boston, Mass.) and Ring of Fire (Raleigh, N.C.).
Heading into the postseason, Revolver is well positioned for another run at the Triple Crown, needing only a national title to complement their U.S. Open victory and number one regular-season ranking.
In the mixed division, Polar Bears (11-3) benefitted from two major tournament wins this season, claiming victory at both the Pro Flight Finale last weekend and the U.S. Open in July. Their U.S. Open win and number one season ranking means that they too are eligible to win the Triple Crown this year.
Polar Bears earned the top ranking ahead of 7 Figures (Los Angeles, Calif.), who notched a perfect 12-0 record, and The Chad Larson Experience (Ames, Iowa), who finished the season 16-4. Defending national champions Drag’n Thrust (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Mischief (San Francisco, Calif.) followed to complete the top five.
Propelled by wins at both the Pro Flight Finale and the Pro-Elite Challenge, Brute Squad (22-4) finished first in the women’s rankings ahead of perennial powerhouses Riot (Seattle) and Scandal (Washington, D.C.). Fury (San Francisco, Calif.) and Molly Brown (Denver, Colo.) ended the regular season fourth and fifth respectively.
With the regular season in the books, the focus now shifts to the Triple Crown Tour’s Postseason Championship Series and a run at the national championships in October. As a result of the final regular-season rankings, the following bids to Nationals were allocated to the eight geographic regions:
Men’s Division – Northwest: 3, Northeast: 3, Southeast: 2, South Central: 2, Mid-Atlantic: 2, North Central: 2, Great Lakes: 1, Southwest: 1
Mixed Division – Southwest: 5, Northwest: 3, Northeast: 2, North Central: 2, Southeast: 1, South Central: 1, Great Lakes: 1, Mid-Atlantic: 1
Women’s Division – Northwest: 4, Northeast: 2, Southeast: 2, Southwest: 2, South Central: 2, Mid-Atlantic: 2, Great Lakes: 1, North Central: 1
The first round of the Triple Crown Tour’s Postseason Championship Series kicks off this weekend with Sectional play followed by Regional competition Sept. 20-21 and Sept. 27-28. The National Championships will be held in Frisco, Texas Oct. 16-19.
