2013 Triple Crown Tour Field Set

Boulder, Colo. (March 1, 2013) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of Ultimate, announced today the teams committed to competing in its four premier 2013
Triple Crown Tour events. Commitments have been received for the
U.S. Open Championships, Pro-Elite Challenge, Elite-Select Challenge and Pro Finale.
The 2013 Triple Crown Tour events are being hosted by some of the country’s most passionate Ultimate communities. Having teams’ commitments this early in the year allows local event organizers to focus on creating the best tournaments possible and provides teams an opportunity to prepare and plan for their seasons more fully than ever before.
"Having this sort of opportunity to plan so far in advance as a second-year team from a city that has never competed nationally in the Women's Division before allows us to focus time and effort on building a strong program to represent Madison, Wisconsin and helping to build the Women's Ultimate community in the Midwest," explains Heist co-captain, Robyn Fennig.
Teams know who their competitors will be at each event, are guaranteed quality competition and can plan accordingly. The extended timeline also allows for unprecedented promotion and coverage of each Triple Crown Tour event and the teams competing.
"Ironside is eagerly anticipating the first Triple Crown Tour. With the guarantee of good competition, events, and media exposure, we are excited to be a part of the journey. Thus far we've loved being able to know what's coming, plan ahead accordingly, and begin to build our team for a great 2013, " said Ironside captain George Stubbs.
The Triple Crown Tour represents the highest level of competitive Ultimate in North America and features three divisions – Men’s, Women’s and Mixed. This year’s events will showcase teams from 18 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and three Canadian provinces. Athletes will travel from California, Texas, North Carolina, Minnesota, Canada and everywhere in between to play the best teams North America has to offer.
"The Polar Bears are…looking forward to taking the first steps towards making the regular season more developed. It will create a longer stretch of intense high-stakes Ultimate!" said Polar Bears captains An-Chi Tsou and Greg Marliave.
Cash Crop captain Ben Dieter had this to add, "With a clear path to an extra bid for the Southeast region…we are preparing to fight hard to earn our keep at the Elite-Select Challenge in Colorado. Can't stop! Won't stop!"
The inaugural Triple Crown Tour kicks off when 12 of the United States’ best teams take on 12 teams from around the world at the U.S. Open Championships & Convention July 4-7, 2013, in Raleigh, N.C.
Said USA Ultimate CEO Dr. Tom Crawford, "we are thrilled with the line-up for this inaugural Triple Crown Tour. To have the season set this early with a bunch of great match-ups, and to be able to build excitement around what will be a series of excellent events is just what we were envisioning as club restructuring and the Triple Crown Tour evolved from concept to reality. We now have a compelling and rich story to tell about our sport as we go from a dynamite college season and championships right into the flights of the Triple Crown Tour!"
Update (6/17) - Heva Havas have replaced Southpaw (disbanded) for the Elite-Select Challnege.
