Everything but the oink! That may be the best way to describe the regional food that is Scrapple and the ultimate team of the same name. Our team is composed of veterans of the Mid-Atlantic club scene who enjoying getting together to share stories, food & drink, and even an occasional game of ultimate. You'll also hear Scrapple called the "other gray meat" and that's a pretty fitting description of grand masters ultimate players.  Scrapple survived the tough competition at last year's championship to take home the title and we hope to be in the thick of things again in 2012.

Boulder Gun Club…irreverent, inappropriate, maybe even politically incorrect but the name harkens back to a simpler day. To the days when men made their way in the world with a sidearm on the hip and a chip on the shoulder. The BGC is an eclectic group of former open players from the west, mostly from the Denver/Boulder area but with some Texas, California, Arizona, and Seattle sprinkled in to incorporate all the various methods of western gunplay. The BGC is comin’ to Blaine this labor day, and in the immortal words of Wyatt Earp, "Hell’s Comin’ with us!"

DoG (Death or Glory) is one of the most storied franchises in ultimate history.  Created after years of crushing defeats, this Boston team won six consecutive Open National championships from 1994-1999 and continued to be a presence on the national scene for years afterward.  After the retirement of its final original members, the team immediately made its mark in grayer pastures, capturing a Masters National Championship in 2007 and World Championship in 2008, and the inaugural Grand Masters Championship in 2009.

Inspired by the Spirit of The Hat, the team is once again donning its cleats in the hope of becoming the first ever repeat winner in the GM Division.

Happening upon a pile of bones, biologists found one particularly striking skeleton.  They were so struck by the features that they attempted to recreate the creature by harvesting DNA from the marrow.  What they unleashed upon an unsuspecting world was a beast with jaws that held massive teeth and razor-sharp words.  All the earth’s creatures ran into hiding as he bellowed across the land:  "FIRST NAME MISTER, MIDDLE NAME PERIOD, LAST NAME….T."

Established in 2011 for Fall Masters USAU Series, Georgetown Brewing is the new Seattle-based Masters & Grand Masters team. Following Surly’s lead, we decided to sell out for corporate sponsorship. Manny Chao (former Ultimate Player) and owner and founder of Georgetown Brewing in Seattle agreed to supply us with sports drinks (IPA), and very cool uniforms. Joining this Seattle gang in Minnesota are players from from Portland’s Burnside, Montana’s Big Sky, and former Ball & Chain players from the South. We didn’t bring any beer since Surly is sponsoring the tournament.

In 1983, former New Rochelle High School Ultimate team captain Jonathan Rubin, who was now captain at Vassar and seeking funding, concocted the idea of telling Vassar administration that a team from the Soviet Union was coming to their tournament.  Thus, Moscow State was formed from NHRS and other local players; went on to win the Vassar tournament; and ended up being one of those omnipresent summer touring teams.  For 20+ years, we did the annual NE circuit (including Ow-My-Knee, No Borders, and Hingham), culminating in a #20 finish at 1993 Worlds in Madison and participation in 1995 Worlds in Street, UK.

Over the years, we’ve had friendly and not-so-friendly rivalries with teams such as Jason and the Argonauts, C.R.U.D., Ottawa, Locomotion, Somerville Youths, Slipped Disc, and others, but whoever the opponent, we’ve been told that playing against Moscow State was always memorable!  We’ve now gathered up our memories of glory and our broken bodies, and made the journey to Ohio.  We’re a Soviet-era team trying to find our way in the modern world.

      Texas

      2012GMLogos SickHammers

In the hands of mere amateurs, Thor's Hammer, the mighty mjolnir, is lethally moody and uncontrollable. Can you say collateral damage?

But through perseverance, stubbornness and dumb luck, the Sick Hammers have learned to tame the beastly battle axe. Year after year, they learned their trade at back room cauldrons around the globe, first as apprentices, then junior craftsmen and eventually as masters. Having forged a formidable path on fields both verdant and drought-scarred, they've now reached full maturity, arriving for the fourth time at this hallowed event.

Lessons learned and forgotten (and again learned and forgotten), the team retains much of its original core: mostly iron strikers from throughout Texas, ably aided by specialist anvil artists from our nation's westernmost coast. Possessing one of the few gifts presented by increased age, patience, they're able to wait until their weapons morph from a glowing red to the white light, white heat of a finished crusher before setting off to do battle. And then, upon lime-lined fields hidden in a land of lakes, they shall yield the potent mjolnir as only wizened Grandmasters can.

Old Line has just been playing together for just a few months now. Yet we have known each other for far too long.   Most of us hail from the Baltimore/ DC metro area.  Yep, we are the ones that never moved away.  We would like to thank our wives, girlfriends, and significant others who were very understanding in letting us go play ultimate on Labor Day weekend in Blaine, Maine.  They all are really excited about the lobster!

We are looking forward to playing hard, seeing old friends and making new ones.  C’mon!

Well, it's been a quiet year in Lake Fishbegone, Arkansas, our hometown, out in the foothills of the Ozarks.

Gotta say this worldwide heatin’ up conspiracy might be fer real.  The lake is dry, the rivers are parched, and it’s so hot that even Bailey’s nekkid chee-wa-wa went in for a shear.  So halfs of us are drinkin’ at West Mountain and halfs at Tanglewood and we had the same goldurn idea—we gotta head North!  So Dr. Doug (he ain’t no real doctor) says there’s some kind of frisbee swap meet up in Minnysoda over Labor Day and we oughts to go.  The Coleman boys and General Lee say throwin’ the flatball is easy as frog-giggin’, so we loaded up Ma Watson’s ‘84 Suburban and let the Ericksons navigate cuz their grandpappies Red and Leaf was purty good at findin their way out of a holler.  Shur ‘nuff, we made it here with the still in one piece.  Jes two questions:  Who’s got some sweatshirts we can borrow and can someone ‘splain the offsides rule?

And that’s the news from Lake Fishbegone, where our livers are strong, our wood teeth are good-looking, and our grammar are above average.

Since rising from the ashes of their youth in the late 1990's, Age Against the Machine has led the struggle for spirited Old Man Ultimate. With appearances at the 2001 and 2004 Masters Nationals, and 2009 and 2010 Grand Masters Nationals, this collection of crafty, crusty and creaky men continue to encourage their fellow aged to wake up, know your enemy, and settle for nothing. Like bulls on parade, these men, formerly perky and even approaching athletic, but now armed only with their wisdom and perseverance, and lacking in skill what they also lack in speed, will rise up one final time against the unrelenting Machine to take the power back.

Old Milwaukee is in its 2nd year of existence.  We are comprised of many old decorated ultimate veterans from around the Central region not willing to give up our cleats just yet.  We were the oldest team to compete last year at Grand Masters Nationals, and not getting any younger.  We look forward to sharing a Cheesecow after the hard fought games with our competitors.

Formed in 1994 in Fremont, California as a competitive Open division team, we have origins in the 1986-1989 Ohlone Community College team in Fremont, as well as a few San Jose based clubs. In the past we've competed at sectionals in the Open division, regionals in the Open and Masters Divisions and Nationals in the Grand Masters division. Several of our players participate in Bay Area Mixed teams, as well, and our team boasts two UPA Certified Observers. Thirst’N’Howl still meanders together weekly to play Ultimate, then hacky sack, drink beer, heckle and insult each other. On Tuesdays we have a Smelt Night (Google it). Being voted the 2009 Grand Masters Spirit Champions by our fellow players was one of the great highlights of our team's long history.

Grandmaster Trash is the fourth reunion tourney for this Twin Cities club of deep spirit and sneaky good play. A Central Region fixture, Trash stood tall with high Regional placements and far flung travels during its open run from 1991-96. Our Friend the Wind is bringing back several distant teammates to join a Twin City core for this long weekend of re-connection with each other, our mojo, and with long lost friends on other teams. Pre-game Keys to Victory will ring out over the fields and spark the fire in our bellies. Beware the rise and spank.
