Eleven U.S. Teams Included in Initial 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships Field

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Nov. 21, 2017) – The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) released the initial list of competing teams for the 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC) in Cincinnati. The provisional list of 128 teams includes 11 U.S. teams; USA Ultimate received three bids in the men’s and mixed divisions and five in the women’s division. U.S. teams earned bids based on their finishes at the 2017 National Championships.
The list will remain provisional until a final list of teams is published by WFDF along with the WUCC schedule next year.
Three divisions will be contested at the 2018 event: men’s, mixed and women’s. Forty-eight mixed teams will compete alongside 40 men’s teams and 40 women’s teams in Cincinnati, the first time an equal number of teams will participate in the men’s and women’s divisions. In all, nearly 4,000 athletes are expected to compete at WUCC 2018.

WUCC 2018 will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, July 14-21, and will be co-hosted by the World Flying Disc Federation and the Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association (CUPA). CUPA has played host to many USA Ultimate championship events over the years, including the 2017 College Championships and 2015 U.S. Open Championships.
First held in 1989, WUCC is the premier club championships event for ultimate. The event is held every four years and is comprised of club teams who are endorsed by their National Federations. The masters division competitions will be held separate from the men’s, mixed and women’s divisions for the first time in 2018. The event’s last iteration was held in Lecco, Italy, in 2014, and included 3,800 athletes on 129 teams from 39 countries. WUCC has been held in the U.S. twice previously: 1993 in Madison, Wis., and 2002 in Honolulu.
